TPIs (third party intermediaries) aren’t regulated by the energy regulator Ofgem. So the Code of Practice is an independent set of standards to make sure you know you’re dealing with a trustworthy TPI.
How the Code helps micro-businesses
The Code is here to give you confidence in your TPI. You’ll know any TPI signed up to it wants to show it does business in a fair and responsible way. And if you think they don’t, you can contact the Independent Code Manager. He will try to resolve any complaints you might have and will regularly do audits and mystery-shopper tests to check TPIs are selling energy in the right way.
